1. Who we are

Empire Vertigo is operated by Adelaide Filippe, trading as Empire Vertigo (“Empire Vertigo”, “we”, “us” or “our”). For the purposes of UK data protection law, Adelaide Filippe is the data controller for the personal information described in this Privacy Policy. For privacy enquiries, requests or concerns, please contact:

2. Information we collect

When you subscribe to Empire Vertigo updates, we collect the email address you provide, together with information associated with the submission where generated by the services used to operate the website. The website may also collect limited technical and usage information necessary to operate, secure and understand the use of the site. Depending on your cookie preferences, this may include information such as your browser, device, network information, IP address, pages visited, referring pages and interaction data.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive or special-category personal information through the mailing-list signup form. Squarespace itself states that its analytics can process browser, network, device, IP and site-interaction information.

3. How we use your information

If you subscribe to the Empire Vertigo mailing list, we use your email address to: send you Empire Vertigo news, notes and updates, notify you when the gates reopen and new Empire Vertigo material becomes available, administer the mailing list and your subscription preferences, comply with requests to unsubscribe or exercise your data-protection rights.

We will not use your email address to send unrelated marketing from third parties.

4. Our lawful basis

For Empire Vertigo email updates, we rely on your consent.

You provide that consent by voluntarily entering your email address into the Empire Vertigo signup form and submitting it after being informed that the list is for Empire Vertigo updates. You may withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before your withdrawal. For technical processing necessary to operate and secure the website, we may rely on our legitimate interests in maintaining a functioning and secure website, where those interests do not override your rights. Where consent is legally required for optional analytics or similar technologies, those technologies will be used on the basis of your consent.

5. How your information is stored and who processes it

The Empire Vertigo website is hosted using Squarespace.

Email addresses submitted through the website are currently collected through Squarespace newsletter forms and stored in connected Google Drive / Google Sheets spreadsheets. Squarespace and Google therefore process personal information on our behalf where necessary to provide these services. We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may also disclose information where required by law, regulation, court order or another valid legal obligation.

6. International data transfers

Some of the service providers used to operate this website may process or store personal information outside the United Kingdom. Where personal information is transferred internationally, we rely on the transfer mechanisms and safeguards provided by those service providers and recognised under applicable UK data-protection law.

7. How long we keep your information

If you subscribe to Empire Vertigo updates, we will normally keep your email address for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe or withdraw your consent, we will stop using your email address to send you marketing communications. We may retain the minimum information necessary to record your opt-out and ensure that we respect it in future, or where retention is required for legal or regulatory reasons. We will not keep personal information for longer than reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.

8. Your rights

Under UK data-protection law, depending on the circumstances, you may have the right to:

  • Request access to personal information we hold about you;

  • Ask us to correct inaccurate information;

  • Ask us to erase your information;

  • Ask us to restrict certain processing;

  • Receive certain information in a portable format;

  • Object to certain uses of your information; and

  • Withdraw your consent where processing is based on consent.

You have the right to object to the use of your personal information for direct marketing at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at: info@empirevertigo.com

There is no charge for making a standard data-protection request, although the law permits charges or refusal in certain limited circumstances.

9. Unsubscribing

You can unsubscribe from Empire Vertigo emails at any time using the unsubscribe option included in our emails or by contacting us directly. Once you unsubscribe, we will stop sending you Empire Vertigo marketing emails.

10. Cookies and website analytics

This website uses cookies and similar technologies. Some cookies are necessary for Squarespace to securely provide and operate the website. Other cookies may be used for analytics and performance purposes. Where required by law, non-essential cookies will only be used after you have been given an appropriate choice about them. You can also change or withdraw your cookie preferences through the cookie controls provided on the website.

11. Complaints

If you have concerns about how we use your personal information, please contact us first at info@empirevertigo.com so that we can try to resolve them.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK supervisory authority for data protection: https://ico.org.uk/

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when our website, mailing-list provider or data-processing practices change. The most recent version will always be published on this page with the date of the latest update shown above.
